About Me
I’m Mike Hagen, a software engineer, mountain biker, map nerd, and occasional artist. I have a passion for maps, topography, laser cutting, and 3d printing. Son of master carver John Hagen, I grew up in the small town of Haines, Alaska, and was touched by the natural and wild beauty of the land. I spent countless hours on my father’s fishing boat, poring over nautical charts dotted with islands, rivers, and points labeled with mysterious sounding names. This is what lead to my interest in cartography.
I’ve recently been iterating on several ideas for displaying some 3d printed models of mountains and valleys that I found interesting. I’ve also been creating a series of laser cut coasters and magnets inspired by nautical charts of familiar areas. Finally, I’ve also collaborated with @drawntohighplaces to laser cut some of her designs as well.
